Brayden Hayes, eye surgery

He has pericarditis and tomorrow at 10am, Doctors in Lincoln will insert a needle into his pericardium (the fluid sac around the heart) to drain off the excess fluids. Clearmont, MO, will be 10:30 Saturday at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel with
interment at Shearer Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday. A
memorial fund will be established. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel is in
charge of arrangements.

Orval Brenneman, died this morning

Two weeks back, Orval was hospitalized with pneumonia. Last week he was put on hospice care. He died peacefully, early this morning. Funeral arrangements are being made through Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel (www.efc.cc). Check with Eickemeyere for details, but at present the plan is to have the funeral on Saturday morning. Pray God's grace and comfort for Orval's family and friends.

Bontragers, house fire

I received a call earlier today from Hillside Missionary Church
(Clarinda) with a prayer request for the Bontragers. In a follow-up call
I discovered that Brian and Chris had a fire in their house early on
Sunday morning. When Brian got up on Sunday he found the main floor of
their house filled with smoke and fire was moving up a wall. The fire
appears to have started in the kitchen, possibly by their toaster. While
some countertop and carpeting will need to be replaced, there was not a
lot of structural damage to the house (they were able to stay in the
house last evening). Some of the things in the cupboards will need to be
replaced, but they will know more when the insurance adjuster arrives.

As you pray for Brian and Chris, thank the Lord Lord that things were
not any worse than they were, and ask Him for grace as the Bontragers
deal with the process of getting their home back to normal. Thanks!

From Paige Vincent: “I have a prayer request for Derek. Derek is having surgery this Monday morning. He will be having the muscles on the inside of his upper thighs cut. This will help him not be so contracted and tight. His surgery is going to be in Omaha at Children's Hospital. Please pray that things will go well in the operating room and after. We pray that God will give the doctor wisdom and guidance during surgery. Also for us too. My family and I are getting more and more nervous everyday. We need the strength and guidance for when we take care of him afterwards. He hasn't had the best outcomes on all his surgeries when it came to anesthesia or infections. With his history of this it makes us more worried. He doesn't really know how to communicate pain very well and can't tell us if anything else is going on. We just pray for a speedy and smooth recovery. Thank you!”

Washer/Dryer for anyone in need

We have a washer/dryer set to give away if you know of someone in the
church in need. They are Maytag's about 7 years old in "good" working
condition, the washer will sometimes not spin all the water out and the
delicates wash selection does not work, the dryer works perfect. We need
to get rid of them this weekend and they will need to come pick them up.

Bill McPhail, lymphoma cancer

Pray for Bill McPhail, pastor and friend to the Midwest District. He writes: "My family and a few friends were aware that during my annual physical last week my doctor discovered a lump in my throat and sent me to a specialist who did a biopsy. Today's report is that I have agressive lymphoma that untreated would would be fatal in a month. The good news is that historically there is an 80% cure rate. Tomorrow will be blood tests, bone marrow tests to be followed by a fullbody scan so that an agressive treatment plan can begin. Though we did not see this coming 10 days ago, we know it is no surprise to God and Judy and I are once again reminded of the words of the motto on the wall of our bedroom: "Only one life 'twill soon be past. Only what's done for Christ will last.""

Update on Alexa Bragg

Wanted to give you all an update on Alexa.

They were able to get more done than expected. They were successful at
getting the gel foam injection done in her cleft in her larynx. This
should reduce the amount of aspirations if not get rid of it all
together. Over the next couple of months we will try to reduce the
amount of thickner that we use in her liquids/foods.

She had laryngomalasia. They went in and fixed that. They made a slit on
each side of the voicebox on a flap there. This flap has given her
problems with swallowing and breathing. By putting the slits in it, it
opened it up more. This should help significantly in reducing upper
airway problems when she gets any respiratory illness. We were able to
see the before and after and can now see why she was having so many
problems.

The same doctor who has done her eartubes both times performed this
surgery. We asked her to check out the tubes while they had her there.
One tube was gone and one was so plugged it was no longer functioning.
She went on ahead and put a new set in. This was a bonus.

As of this morning she has started to get a little bit of her voice
back. She was crying yesterday but nothing was coming out. We are hoping
to go home today but it could be tomorrow. Some patients have to stay
more than one night depending on how they come out. She is drinking a
little more at each feeding and taking her meds a little easier.

Thanks for all the prayers and support. As you can read, many of them
have been answered.

3 dead, 4 injured in Accident

There was a terrible accident last night involving 7 people..their lives
will never be the same...3 of them died the rest were either seriously
injured or minor injuries.. one of those was a cousin to Scott..His name
was Benjamen McIntyre, 22yrs old. He was killed instantly..the others
were a 19 yr old , Joshua Bix and Crystal Olriech who was 18. Please be
in prayer for their families. The driver ,Scott Woods, survived. They
were all in a pick up....driver lost control and went of the side of the
rode. The truck then overturned and caught fire. They were all thrown
from the truck and 2 were killed instantly ( Ben being one of them) and
the other died on the way to the hospital. I don't believe that Ben was
saved, just from what I have seen on FB...He was also expecting a child
with a girlfriend ...Thanks for the prayer... Jilisa

The Cameroonian presidential election is coming up on October 9th. Please join us in prayer that peace and stability will continue in the country during this time. Bamenda is actually the home of the leading opposition party, so tensions can ride high here. One more prayer request is for our residency cards. We renewed them back in October and were given 6 months temporary ones until our new ones to come. When they didn't arrive in May, they extended the temporary ones for another 6 months. It is coming up on a year now, please pray that our permanent residency card will be processed soon and that we will get them into our hands. Thank you!

"Isaiah called Monday evening and they had put Alexa back in the hospital again. Pneumonia and a collapsed lung. By noon the IV had quit working and they put in a new one. She was in a lot of pain, started throwing up, "freaking out" (as he put it) and having a hard time breathing. They worked quite a while and got her calmed down then had to turn her oxygen up to 1 where she had been at .5. This evening they are waiting for radiology to do another chest x-ray. All she is doing is sleeping and "screaming bloody murder". Not herself at all. They are giving her pain medicine, breathing treatments, steroids, IV's and antibiotics. Hoping her lung isn't filling up more. Pray for God's loving healing touch and peace. ." --Norma

John Hansen, update

Doug Tindall is pastor of Grace Missionary Church, in Milford, NE
(www.gracemissionary.org). His 24 year old daughter Gabby, works in a
nursing home and was bit by one of the residents, which let into a
massive septic infection, placing her at death's door and in intensive
care. She is now improving but will require months of rehabilitation due
to a secondary health issue. Pray for Gabby's full recovery and for God
the lift the discouraging burden upon the family.

Wind Storm Damages

Many of our members experienced windstorm damage in yesterday's 100mph "straight line winds." Everywhere I turn, I hear our people expressing graditude and dealing with a difficult situation, with the smile of faith.

The Perala's get the prize for loosing the most shingles, the most tree damage, and the largest hail--baseball-sized. Still they are without power, but not without joy for God's goodness. They are "tarped in" for now.

Thanks to all who prayed and helped one another. Let's pray that this is one of those "all things work together for good," moments.

Chaldean/Muslim Ministry in Detroit

With support from the Missionary Church, Bassim Gorial and his wife,
Haifa, are starting the first Aramaic-speaking evangelical church in
1400 years, and the first Chaldean evangelical church ever in the world!
As part of the Walled Lake (Michigan) Missionary Church, Bassim and
Haifa have been involved in broadcasting ministry to Muslims in the
Detroit area, starting with a studio in the basement of the church.
Having given their lives to the Lord in 1989, they founded the Aramaic
Broadcasting Network (abnsat.com) and in 1999 began producing one local
TV program and one radio show. From that beginning, ABN has grown to
24/7 broadcasting through satellite and the internet. Now they're
starting not just one Chaldean church, but five new churches in the
Detroit area. According to Bassim, "After starting the first one, the

A Good Word on "Why Church?"

Churchgoing has fallen on difficult times lately. For some Christians it is a weak substitute for a picnic on a rainy Sunday. Excuses are as plentiful as quarters in the collection plate. The fact is, many professing Christians don’t think church is all that important. They think they can be perfectly good Christians without being part of a local congregation.

The author of Hebrews disagreed! For one thing, our own spiritual welfare is not to be our only concern. We go to church not just to get but to give—to spur on other Christians to “love and good works” (Hebrews 10:24). If we stay away, we may give them an excuse to be careless.

On the other hand, if we attend with enthusiasm, we encourage other believers in their ambition to draw near to Christ. If we are faithful in meeting together with them, we will honor the Lord, grow in our faith, and give a strong witness to the world.

The Christian faith allows no room for rugged individualists. To have a fire, you need more than one coal. You also need a spark and a draft of air. One humble, open, involved individual—perhaps you—set on fire by Christ, can be the spark. And the Holy Spirit, the breath of God, may blow on that spark and set a congregation ablaze.

So, are you gathering with other believers?

Southern Baptists have expressed “profound disappointment” with the new 2011 New International Version Bible because of its usage of gender-neutral language and “respectfully requested” that their LifeWay Christian bookstores not carry it. [read more…]

The 2011 version is a significant rewrite, incorporating much of the controversial TNIV language. Zondervan holds the copyright on the NIV and is not longer a Christian-owned company, but is a Division of HarperCollins (which publishes the Satanic Bible!). As such, a new translation means a new way to reintroduce product line—without the strong conscientious underpinnings of a Christian worldview. Along with the TNIV, the new 2011 NIV introduces language conducive to politically correct thinking. The present 1984 version will be discontinued. Matthew Denham, broken foot

He saw the Orthopedic surgeon today and the foot is "severely broken."
He will need surgery and 6 weeks off his feet with his foot elevated.
This means he's coming home for the surgery and convalescence. Pray for

Hamburg's Day of Hope

You are invited to join and participate in blessing the community of
Hamburg Iowa during this tragic time of flooding and uncertainty. When
people are faced with this kind of crisis stress levels run high,
families suffer, and hope is sometimes lost.

This event is all about giving the people of Hamburg a day to take a
breath, come together as families and community in order to regroup, be
encouraged and regain strength in community for the journey ahead.

Hamburg's Day of Hope is a Community Picnic with live music, games,
food, and fun. We are encouraging Red Oak Iowa and surrounding
communities, businesses, individuals, and groups to jump in and be part
of this effort.

We are in need of donations like hot dogs/hamburgers, buns, chips, pop,
water, coolers, ice, plates, plastic siverware, cups, drink coolers,
drink mixes, family games like ladderball, horse shoes, etc. We are
welcoming musicians to provide live music as well. If you have a talent,
resource, gift, whatever fits into a picnic to bring joy and hope to the
community of Hamburg just bring it!

We also need volunteers from Red Oak and surrounding communities to
serve the people of Hamburg. Set up/clean up crews, people to man
grills, help with games, people to simply be there and encourage others
should all come to help with the event. If you would like to donate any

"We are presently in WV with my mom - closing down her home (a mammoth
and overwhelming job - both of my parents were "collectors" and never
discarded anything from the house, workshop, and storage buildings - it
all has to go before we put the house up for sell). We are seeking to
move her to Mishawaka, Indiana. Quite frankly, she is praying that she
will go to be with the Lord before the move is made. She has always
wanted to die in her own home. We would appreciate your prayers that
(Lord willing) the Skilled Nursing Facility in Mishawaka and the
Insurance would approve her as a patient. They will be deciding that
today or in the next few days ahead. We need spiritual, physical, and
emotional strength for all we are doing. We have seen God's Hand in what
has taken place so far, and we want to continue to see Him work and
prepare the way for us. This has been a very stretching time, but we
are praising Him for His companionship and presence."
